COVID-19 Update

With so many unknowns in 2020, the impact COVID-19 would have on Haiti’s small but dense population of 11.2 million people, sharing its border with the Dominican Republic, was no exception. Haiti’s first case of COVID-19 was diagnosed in late March, followed by a few weeks of increased cases and large numbers, triggering fear in a country already conditioned to disease and crisis. In a surprise turn, Haiti’s biggest fears have not been realized. From June to July, cases dropped from 300 per day to 100 per day, and as of August 9, 2020, Haiti had reported only 183 COVID-19 related deaths. We are cautious and yet hopeful this trajectory will continue as we celebrate the health and safety of our kids and staff at Glory Glory.
