Evolution Haiti was established in 2010

OUR VISION

Our vision is to significantly change the lives of future generations of Haitians by supporting in-country efforts to develop youth leaders who are eager to effect social, economic, political and spiritual change within their communities.

History of Evolution Haiti

On January 12th, 2010, a 7.0 magnitude earthquake struck the island nation of Haiti, affecting more than 3,500,000 million people. It is estimated that 220,000 thousand people died while another 300,000+ thousand people were injured.

Within an instant, 1.5 million people became homeless. UNICEF estimated there were 380,000 orphans in Haiti before the disaster and it is believed that post-earthquake the number doubled. Haiti’s failing infrastructure left families living in extreme poverty with even fewer resources to survive and many children without adequate food, shelter or protection.

Evolution Haiti grew out of a relationship that was formed just days after the earthquake, when a team of Americans rushed to the country’s aid and met a Haitian church pastor with a vision for his country’s future. That meeting resulted in a series of events that profoundly affected the lives of Evolution Haiti’s founders (its original board of directors).

Each of Evolution Haiti’s founding members visited Haiti, met a Haitian pastor with a vision (Samuel Metelus), and fell in love with Haiti’s people and culture. They listened as Pastor Samuel explained his vision for growing and empowering the country’s youth. They agreed with his belief that true change must come from within…that Haitians must work together to solve Haiti’s problems. And they recognized the benefit outside support could provide in Pastor Sam’s efforts to prepare Haiti’s youth to make a difference in their communities…and their country.

Thus, Evolution Haiti was born.
